The Building Engagement Task Force (BETF), after conducting a methodical evaluation of three large construction companies chose Nunn Construction to partner with in building our fellowship hall. This process included establishing 22 UUFD priorities, requesting proposals from each company, developing a comparison spreadsheet to evaluate those proposals, and consulting with an outside professional. Our heaviest weighted item was cost. Sam Krier, vice president of Nunn, met with the BETF on Monday afternoon. He clarified their process and answered several Task Force questions. At the board meeting on Tuesday evening, the Board voted unanimously to enter into a pre-construction contract with Nunn for $4,500. In this stage, design and costs will be analyzed to come up with a Guaranteed Maximum Price for the project.
The Bowman Hall Task Force (BHTF) continues its work to clarify the potential future uses of Bowman Hall. We look forward to their analysis of the costs and program implications of those possibilities.
The next steps in the building development schedule, amended from the last post, look like this:
- Bowman Hall analysis to Board May 1, 2026
- Board determines financial capability Mid May 2026
- Annual Meeting and status update May 17, 2026
- Design development proceeds with RA+A Mid May to Mid June
- Conceptual Design presented to Congregation Mid to late June
- Congregational consideration of design Late June to ?
While a specific date for a vote on a final design is not set, a formal conceptual design recommendation will be made to the congregation only after the task force and board reach an agreement on the project’s scope (including Fellowship Hall, Lobby and Bowman Hall/administration priorities) and the conceptual design is amended so that it fits within our financial capability and meets as many of our goals as possible. After the initial conceptual design is presented to the congregation, it will be discussed in as many forums as necessary to reach a consensus on a final design which we love and on which we will vote.
