Spiritual Practice in Everyday Life: Reflections from 20 Years of Ashram Living

Hinduism is one of the most ancient and complex religions of the world, comprising thousands of sects and traditions.   Rather than an academic lecture about its history, I will be sharing insights from my 20 years of living and practicing a yogic lifestyle in a Hindu ashram (spiritual community) here in the US.  With the support of GaiaShakti, a group of local kirtan musicians, we will immerse ourselves in chanting Om and other Sanskrit mantras.   Through this talk, Anna invites us to discover the power of this tradition as well as how it connects with the core values of Unitarianism.

For the past 25 years, Anna Pool has owned and operated Executive Savvy, an executive coaching and organizational consulting firm in Durango, CO.  Through this, she has supported hundreds of senior leaders and executives in clarifying their values and priorities and leading with more clarity and compassion.  Prior to this, from 1976 to 1996, she helped to co-found and lead Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, a spiritual community dedicated to bringing Eastern teachings and practices to the West.  She served for ten years as a member and/or board president of Shanta Foundation; a local nonprofit focused on creating 6 year partnerships with villages in Myanmar and Africa in order to find sustainable pathways out of extreme poverty.  She is the co-author of Creating Futures that Matter Today:  Facilitating Change Through Shared Vision.  She has been a kirtan (Sanskrit chanting) leader for almost 50 years and loves to share this practice.
