The History of the Star of David

The history of the Star of David goes back beyond Judaism. John will explore the history of the Star of David and how it became a prominent symbol of Judaism.

John Heavenrich, a retired attorney from Cleveland, began his commute to Durango in 2000. John was raised in a reformed Jewish family and was active in the Har Shalom synagogue in Durango for many years. While in Durango he has served on the Advisory Committee of the San Juan Symphony, the Board of Trustees of the Women’s Resource Center and as President of the Skydancer Town Homes Association.

John got involved with the Unitarian Universalist Church because of the congregation’s commitment to social justice, its hikers, riders and skiers. He has just retired as a Ski Instructor at the Purgatory Ski School.
